Slumdog Areas: Keeping their faith!

Have you watched Slumdog Millionaire? It's a story of a young boy who grew up in a depressed area in Mumbai, India. When he was young, he didn't bother with all the hatred, negative comments and poverty that surrounded him. Instead, he moved forward and he won a million bucks when he joined the Indian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire"! Sounds interesting, right? During my college days, we had a subject entitled Program Planning and Building which we gathered information and data in our chosen barangays. We interviewed people from depressed areas about their lives in their slum houses. At first, I was a bit nervous and frigid because my thesis mates kept on teasing who will be the first one to conduct an interview. Because I have a soft spot with the people in slum areas, I decided to be the first one to mingle with them. We asked them about their jobs, families, their cost of living and what are their plans for the future. Some of them were hopeless cases because they wanted to stay longer in the slum area rather than to live in a quiet place but no jobs to linger on. I cannot blame them because they are immune to whatever things have been happening in their area. But some of them has an optimistic side and still have the faith, that in time, God will surely remove them from depression. All I mentioned above is just a reality check that we are not living in a bed of roses. We face struggles, life challenges and a heck of plug-uglies. But in our hearts, if we have firm faith in God, nothing is impossible. Just put in your mind that God answers prayers in three ways: Yes you will have it! Not yet! There's something better! In all cases be thankful. P.S. After you read all the contents here, if you have idle time, try to watch Slumdog Millionaire. It's worth a thousand bucks! :)

You’re my favorite (Gin) King/ Weekend Warrior

It’s already been two weeks since the news circulated all over the internet particularly on the sports page of the newspaper, news sports program and PBA Sports that Sunday Salvacion is not a Gin king anymore. At first, I don’t have any idea about the trade issue because I haven’t received any texts from my friends in Ginebra. Then I opened my Facebook account and looked at Itay Sunday’s (Yes, we fondly called him Itay and her wife as Inay Chin because they treated their fans as one of their “anakis”...) wall/ profile in FB and I read some wall posts about the trade issue. Most of his fans were deeply saddened on his departure in Ginebra and others were saying good luck in his new team which is the Barako Bull. They assured Itay that whatever happens, their support is 101% guaranteed. According to some news, Itay’s contract in Ginebra was already expired and the management didn’t renew his contract and decided to bring him up in Barako Bull. When I heard this news, it may sound...

Resist Their Attempts to “Ground” You: Embrace Your Wicked Self

If you've spent your life as a misunderstood outcast and always challenged traditional notions of good and evil, yet you are still an empathetic and deeply compassionate soul, you are a variant of "Elphaba Thropp." Wicked is based on the Broadway musical, story of the Witches of Oz: Glinda the Good and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of The West was originally adapted from a novel, The Wizard of Oz , but reimagined. Both witches explore their complex friendship until some twist of events leads to Elphi’s vilification. Wicked is a beloved work of art for a dear friend of mine, who has shared how it profoundly changed his life and perspectives. When he encouraged me to watch the movie, I agreed, even though I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. The strength of the movie lies in the performances of the lead actors -- the chemistry between Ariana Grande (Galinda/Glinda) and Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba/Elphi) serves as the emotional core of the story. The visuals and produ...

The beauteous of Ilocos

I remember when I was in high school, I wrote in my journal that someday I'll visit Ilocos and explore the authenticity of Sur and Norte. My mother told me everything she experienced when she had a trip there with her co-teachers many years back. I wasn't able to join them because I have a class then and I guess, it was just exclusive for the COOP members of P. Guevara only. So, kayo na! :D A piece of throwback for me, eh! :) Just two weeks ago, my friends, a special chubby chef and I toured around Ilocos Sur/ Norte for three fun-filled days. Kuya Danny of Peter Pan Tours kindly assisted us throughout our tour and he was jaunty enough on answering our questions, even the stupid ones. :D For a price of 3,150php/ head (3D2N hotel accommodation stay- brunch and dinner not included), it wasn't bad for a budget traveler like us. :) We just brought our pocket lucre and our travel things for our much-awaited trip. ;) Day 1: The Bantay Bell Tower (built in 1951.) ( P...
